How Is Your Sales Team Doing? Is It Time to Hire a New Sales Rep?

Find sales people

On average, sales teams experience a turnover of approximately 40% every year. Turnover at this rate can be devastating to your organization. If your organization has a turnover rate of 40% or higher, then it may be possible that you are hiring the wrong people. Do you know how to hire a sales rep? Here are three pointers to help you find sales people for our organization.

1. Does the prospect have the necessary skills?

The best sales people have the total package. They have the inviting smile and handshake which is so critical towards making any sales call, and they also have the technology savvy to handle the rest of their job duties. If your organization uses a contact management software of some kind, then in your interviewing process you will want to be sure that your prospects have the necessary skills to work with that software.

If you are nervous about acquiring a candidate with all the necessary skills then make yourself a checklist!

2. What are you willing to overlook?

Finding the perfect sales rep right off the bat could be difficult. You may have to settle for a rep that has many of the skills you want, but not all. If there are skills that you are willing to overlook then are you prepared to bring that new employee up to the performance level that your business requires? It is safe to say that a person with confidence is very often a person that can make a sale. If you need to build confidence in your sales rep then consider that they will need a good understanding of what they are trying to sell, who their competition is, and what techniques are most effective. Having effective sales techniques can be the building blocks of confidence for your sales rep, taking them from average to fantastic!

Make sure to evaluate which skills you are willing to try and foster in your sales reps before accepting any average performers.

3. There is an advantage to leaving the process to professionals.

If you are still wary, and you think you do not know how to hire a sales rep then there are always the professionals out there who can lend a hand. Headhunters, recruitment agencies, and sales recruiters are in the business because they know how to hire a sales rep. Some recruiting firms will even offer followup services beyond hiring sales people, such as sales management and training.

Follow any of these three pointers and in no time you will be hiring a sales rep with the skills, personality, and confidence that your organization needs.

  1. I am very interested in contracting with professionals to find new reps for our team. How much do their services cost? Are they like temp agencies? I just do not want to have to pay too much for a new employee…they can be expensive.

  2. We have some good people on our team but they could use a little training. Do these places that offer the follow up also hep out struggling teams sometimes? We would pay of course. I do not want to hire new sales reps though cause I like these guys.
