Did you know that the more money you make, the longer it takes for you to find re-employment? Typically, when someone made a six figure salary or was prominent in his or her company and then was let go, it is very difficult for that person to get a new job of the same magnitude. Even with the best career development skills, a career transition can be extremely difficult.
Enter outplacement consultants. Many times, when someone loses their job and works with an outplacement consultant, they can use their career development process to find a new job that caters to their skills or abilities. However, research has shown that losing one’s job is one of the most stressful experiences a person goes through in life, just behind death and divorce.
Many companies use employee coaching or other employee engagement activities to get the most from their employees or help them transition to new jobs or new areas of work inside their company. On another note, the United Kingdom’s Chartered Institute of Personnel Management reports that just over half of 500 companies actually consider coaching a key part of learning development, and consider coaching crucial to their business strategy. About 90 percent even reported that they use coaching.
Overall, losing a job is one of the worst things that can happen to a person. However, with the right coaching and professional help, a person can find a new job, although it likely will not pay the same amount, nor will the person in question have the same power and esteem they had at their old job.
