Do you know just how important social media marketing and mobile technology are in your internet marketing quest? So much so, in fact, that out of the 91 percent of American adults who own a cell phone, 55 percent of those own a smartphone. Of those smartphone users, nearly half turn to search engines on their phones daily as well as visit social networking sites. Online connectivity is increasing so much and so quickly, that brick and mortar retailers are getting nervous.

As such, in 2012, more than $6.4 billion was spent on mobile internet marketing adoptions, yet currently, only 26 percent of small businesses have invested in adapting their sites to this growing trend. What is more, according to an eMarketer report, Americans will spend $62.24 billion by 2016 via mobile online payments. These figures underscore the huge opportunity for businesses looking to ramp up their internet marketing strategies.

Adapting the web design of your site to be mobile friendly is the first step of effective internet marketing. You also must increase your ranking on search engine results page. Why, you ask? Because 93 percent of internet users begin their online experience from a search engine, and of those that do, a whopping 79 percent only click on the first page of organic search results. If your site is not visible and ranking at the top of those natural search results, you are out of the game.

Once you have your SEO internet marketing strategies (such as content, keywords, tags, etc.) covered. Ask yourself where you stand in terms of social media marketing? Each year, more and more businesses outsource their social media marketing needs (this year hit 30 percent, last year was 28 percent) because 67 percent of internet users visit a social media site each and every day. Not only does social media help you conserve your current customers, but the more your business is talked about, mentioned, or visited, the higher your search engine ranking, too.
