Hair has complex anatomy just like any other part of the body. It may seem simple because one hair is so small, but there is a lot going on beyond what we can see. Hair is made up of a bulb, shaft, and root. The shaft is what we see sticking out of the skin into the open air.

The root is below the surface of the skin and reaches down into the bulb which lies deep in the dermal layer of the skin. The root and bulb combined make up the hair follicle. Hair is formed when cells divide and move upwards in the follicle. They undergo a repeating process of dying and regrowing. Due to hereditary, the cells and their life process alter, creating hair loss or thinning hair as we age. The video will also explain how we get our hair color and what contributes to different hair colors.
